Food Safety Fact vs. Myth

The Challenge

In the food safety industry, misinformation can spread rapidly and lead to dangerous practices. Our client needed to address common misconceptions that persisted across their global workforce while:

  • Correcting prevalent food safety myths quickly and efficiently
  • Reaching a diverse, multilingual audience across different regions
  • Delivering critical information in an engaging yet straightforward format
  • Creating a solution that could be rapidly deployed to address immediate needs

While our previous projects demonstrated our capability to develop complex, highly interactive learning experiences, this project required a different approach—one that balanced simplicity, effectiveness, and international accessibility.

Our Solution

We developed "Food Safety Fact vs. Myth," a streamlined yet engaging quiz-based learning experience designed for maximum clarity and global reach. This approach prioritized rapid development and multilingual accessibility without sacrificing learner engagement.

Learning Experience

The training presents common food safety statements and challenges learners to distinguish established facts from dangerous myths:

  • Clear, concise statements appear in the learner's native language
  • Users make straightforward "Fact" or "Myth" selections
  • Immediate feedback explains why a statement is true or false
  • Supporting evidence reinforces correct understanding
  • Misconceptions are directly addressed with accurate information

This format delivers critical safety information in a format that respects the learner's time while ensuring they walk away with correct understanding that can be immediately applied in their work environment.

Global Accessibility

What distinguished this project was its international scope and emphasis on accessibility:

  • Localized into 8 different languages to serve a diverse global workforce
  • Collaborated with specialized translation vendors to ensure technical accuracy across languages
  • Maintained consistent learning experience regardless of language selection
  • Adapted cultural references where appropriate to ensure relevance
  • Preserved visual design elements that communicate effectively across cultural contexts
This approach ensured that critical food safety information was equally accessible to all team members, regardless of their primary language—an essential consideration for global organizations.

Technical Implementation

While the instructional design was intentionally streamlined, the technical execution required sophisticated coordination:

  • Developed a flexible Storyline architecture designed for seamless language integration
  • Created a content management approach that facilitated efficient translation workflows
  • Implemented quality control processes to verify accuracy across all language versions
  • Maintained responsive design principles to ensure consistent experience across devices
  • Optimized file size and loading parameters for regions with varying internet speeds
The true complexity of this project lay not in elaborate interactions but in creating a robust framework that could accommodate multiple languages while maintaining the integrity of the learning experience.

Results

The multilingual approach proved highly effective:

  • Over 700 completions across 8 language versions
  • Broader reach than any previous food safety training initiative
  • Consistent engagement metrics across different regions and languages
  • Rapid deployment timeline from concept to global launch
  • Cost-effective approach that maximized impact while minimizing development complexity

The Expanse Approach

"Food Safety Fact vs. Myth" demonstrates another essential dimension of our training philosophy: sometimes the most effective solution isn't the most complex one. While we excel at creating immersive, highly interactive experiences like "Super Peccy" or scenario-based learning like "Summer Grilling," we also recognize when a more streamlined approach will better serve the core objectives.
This project showcases our ability to:

  • Assess when simplicity serves the learning objective better than complexity
  • Deliver global accessibility through thoughtful localization
  • Manage complex vendor relationships to ensure quality across languages
  • Balance engagement with efficiency and rapid deployment
  • Adapt our approach based on the specific needs of each project
By combining thoughtful instructional design with innovative interactive techniques, we transformed what could have been a forgettable safety bulletin into an engaging experience that prepares users to make better decisions when it matters most.

This approach can be adapted for any training scenario where decision-making skills, risk assessment, or procedural knowledge needs to be developed in a compelling, memorable way.
